HMRC rates2026/27 PAYE defaults

UK pay, tax and budget changes, worked through at named salaries

When a government, a tax authority or a statistics office announces something that could change what you earn, keep or spend, the posts here work out what it means in pounds.

The short version

A post links the dated official source it starts from and says how far the change has got, from announced to in force. The calculators on this site do not apply a measure before its date. The tables come from the same engine as the calculators, and a post states the tax year and nations it covers. No post tells you what to do with your money.

What each post found

  • The April minimum wage rise. About 72% of the rise is kept, because Income Tax at 20% and National Insurance at 8% come off it first. Published 31 October 2026. Announced, not yet law when this was written: due to apply from April 2027.
  • Tax on savings interest from April. Someone on £30,000 with £2,000 of interest a year would pay £40 more, and HMRC says most taxpayers are not liable to tax on their savings income. Published 31 October 2026. Announced, not yet law when this was written: due to apply from April 2027.
  • The salary sacrifice NI cap. At 10% of pay the cost does not rise steadily with salary: at 2026/27 rates, someone with one job on £50,000 would pay £240 a year more, and someone on £60,000 would pay £80. Published 30 October 2026. Passed into law, not yet in effect when this was written: it applies from April 2029.
